Giza pyramids
Giza is lined with three great pyramids from northeast to southwest: Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), Pyramid of Khafre (Chephren) and Pyramid of Menkaure (Mycerinus), which were built during the Old Kingdom period, namely Khufu (2551-2528 BC) and Khafre (2520 - 2494). BC) and the king of Menkaure (2490 - 2472 BC).
There are about 80 ancient Egyptian pyramids in existence today, the largest and most famous of which is the Great Pyramid of Giza (Cheops or Khufu), located west of Cairo. The Pyramid of Khufu is the largest and oldest of the three pyramids. Bt not the oldest of all Egypt as before it were built other pyramids in Saqqara, Meidum and Dahshur,Khufu pyramid was originally 146.5 meters high. After more than 4,000 years, it is now about 137 meters high. May be it was because sand erosion or because the golden top was stolen thousands years ago.
The base of the Khufu pyramid tower is 230 meters long. The pyramid is made of more than 2.3 million large stones, each weighing more than 2 tons. There are three small pyramids to the east of the big pyramid, which are the tombs of queens. To the south was the Solar Boat Museum, but the boat now was moved to the new grand museum. The ancient Egyptians believed that the Pharaoh would take the sun boat to the underworld after his death.
The next Pyramid in Giza is belonging to Cheops son, king Khafre, was originally 143.5 meters high and is now 136.5 meters high, with a side length of 215 meters. The third pyramid is for Cheops grandson Pyramid of Menkaure, which is significantly smaller, is now about 62 meters high and 109 meters long on a side, but it also has three small accompanying tombs.
The Sphinx guarding the Great Pyramid has also become a well-known world-class tourist attraction, head of man to represent being intelligent, body of lion to represent being strong.
